This baby suit is a beautiful example of infant’s clothing in the 1960s. It would have been suitable for a baby girl or boy, even though the embroidered detail and trim is in a light blue shade. It was made by a British manufacturer, ‘Rob Roy’. It belonged to the Young family of North Berwick.
This cream suit has short sleeves, elasticated leg area and buttoned openings. Three delicately embroidered flowers, together with a blue trim and ruched panel decorate the front of the garment.
Man made fabrics became increasingly popular throughout the 1950′s and 60′s. This outfit is made from a fabric called terylene, a type of polyester. This fabric is soft, yet hard wearing, making it ideal for baby garments.
